VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Norfolk State sophomore Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.) turned in a third place finish in 22:56 and helped the Spartans finish third on Saturday at the Virginia Wesleyan 6K Marlin Invitational. Junior Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.) and freshman Syeeda Gee (Philadelphia, Pa.) also earned medals for the Spartans, finishing ninth (24:27) and 12th (24:46), respectively.
Rounding out the Spartans' top-five were sophomore Anastacia Limo (Kapsabet, Kenya) in 26:17 and freshman Jamia Hutto (Orlando, Fla.) in 26:47.
Jessica Shaw of Washington and Lee won the race in 22:17, helping the Generals to a first-place team finish.
The Spartans' other finishers included Marnita Patterson (Chesapeake, Va.) (27:56), Candace Shoates (Newport News, Va.) (29:18) and Chynell Gray (Virginia Beach, Va.) (29:22).
Head coach Ronda Berard was pleased with her team's performance and knows that as the season progresses, her athletes will continue to do well.
The Spartans travel to Cockeysville, Md. on Friday to run at the Towson Invitational. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
