OREGON RIDGE, Md. — The Norfolk State women's cross country team turned in a sixth-place finish at the 2008 Baltimore Metro Meet hosted by Towson University on Friday afternoon. NSU tallied 147 points and finished ahead of MEAC rivals Coppin State (7th, 226 points), Delaware State (8th, 232) and Morgan State (9th, 235).
Leading the Spartans for the second consecutive week was reigning MEAC Athlete of the Week, sophomore Jennifer Chichester (Silver Spring, Md.). She finished fifth in 18:45, just 26 seconds off the course record of 18:19. Overall winner Katie Radzik of Binghamton set a new course record, finishing the 5K run in 18:03.
Junior Tia Miles (Richmond, Va.) and freshman Syeeda Gee (Philadelphia, Pa.) were NSU's second and third finishers, respectively. Miles ran a 20:24, while Gee finished in 20:37.
Rounding out the Spartans' top five were sophomore Anastacia Limo (Kapsabet, Kenya) (21:32) and freshman Jamia Hutto (Orlando, Fla.) (22:18).
NSU travels to Princess Anne, Md. to take part in the 2008 Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore. The Spartans run at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
