NORFOLK, Va. — Former Norfolk State University quarterback Dennis Brown (Miami, Fla.) has signed a contract with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
Brown started all 23 games under center for the Spartans the last two seasons. The University of Connecticut transfer finished his NSU career second in school history in total offense (4,617 yards) and fourth in passing yards (3,771). Last season, Brown passed for 18 touchdowns and 2,228 yards, third-most for any quarterback in Spartan history. He also ran for 846 yards in his two years with the school, which is believed to be a school record for a quarterback.
Brown is the third member of the 2009 football team to sign a professional contract so far. Safety Terrell Whitehead (Jacksonville Jaguars) and receiver Chris Bell (New Orleans Saints) signed free-agent NFL contracts last month.
