UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – A trio of veterans who all registered season-best performances led the way for the Norfolk State women's track and field team over the weekend at the Penn State National meet.

Senior Kaydianne McKenzie set an indoor PR in the triple jump, senior Brittney McCants excelled in the 60 and 200 meters, and junior Kiara Howell posted a season best in the shot put for the Spartans.

McKenzie's leaped 40 feet, half an inch to capture fourth place in the triple jump. She hadn't cleared 40 feet during an indoor meet in her career prior to the weekend. That ranks as the top triple jump in the MEAC so far this season.

McCants had a busy weekend, running three heats in the 60m and then posting a solid effort in the 200m on Saturday. She got progressively faster in the 60 on Friday, clocking times of 7.67 seconds in the heats, 7.60 in the semifinals and 7.59 to take seventh place in the finals. The 7.59 is the fastest she has run in the 60m since her sophomore year of 2013.

McCants also took seventh on Saturday in the 200 in a season-best time of 25.05 seconds.

Howell logged her best mark in the shot put this year, and second-best in the MEAC this year, with a top throw of 46-1.25. She tied for sixth in that event.

Brianna Hayes also earned a top-10 finish for the Spartans at PSU over the weekend, placing ninth in the high jump (5-4.25).

Elsewhere Saturday, a small contingent of Spartans also competed at the CNU Captains Invitational in Newport News. Te'Shaibrah Myles and Tasia Baxter finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the pole vault. Both cleared 9-4.25.

The Spartans compete at the Vince Brown Invitational, also hosted by CNU, next Sunday.
