MEAC Women's Indoor Final Results
LANDOVER, Md. – Tiara Davis repeated as MEAC indoor pole vault champion, leading a strong showing by the Norfolk State field athletes that helped the Spartan women finish sixth at the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
Hampton won the MEAC women's indoor championship with 112.5 points, just ahead of Bethune-Cookman (108.5). NSU placed sixth with 54.
Davis cleared 10 feet, 11.5 inches to win her third straight MEAC pole vault title, including last year's indoor-outdoor sweep. Bethune-Cookman's Jessica DeRoux also cleared 10-11.5, but finished second behind the Spartans' senior based on having more misses.
Sophomore
Te'Shaibrah Myles (9-11.75) tied for fourth and freshman
Tasia Baxter tied for seventh (9-5.75) to give NSU a total of 16 points in the event.
Senior
Kaydianne McKenzie was NSU's next-highest finisher on Saturday, finishing as runner-up in the triple jump. McKenzie's best leap was 39 feet, 5.75 inches. Her teammate,
Desmonae Gray, placed sixth in the same event with a top effort of 37-9.5.
Junior
Kiara Howell capped a strong day for the NSU field athletes by taking third place in the shot put, with a top throw of 44-11.5. Howell was also third in the weight throw on Friday.
The Spartans' top finisher on the track Saturday was junior
Jazmine Vaughan. She placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.78 seconds. Sprinter
Brittney McCants claimed seventh in the 60 meter dash (7.61) and distance runner
Rachel Webb took eighth in the 3,000 meters (10:43.47).
The Spartans have more than a month off from competition before opening outdoor season at the University of Virginia on March 21.
