WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Kiara Howell placed in the top 10 in all three throwing events she entered this past weekend as the Norfolk State women's track and field team competed at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
 
Howell was runner-up in the shot put with a season-best throw of 44 feet, 4.75 inches. She also took third in the discus (143-4) and seventh in the javelin (130-7). Her throw in the discus is the best in the MEAC so far this outdoor season.
 
With Howell leading the way, the Spartan field athletes made a strong showing at the Colonial Relays. Tiara Davis recorded an outdoor personal-best in the pole vault, clearing 10-11.75 to finish in a tie for third place. Davis' height also leads all MEAC pole vaulters this year. Sophomore Te'Shaibrah Myles also tied a personal outdoor best in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet and taking 14th place.
 
In addition, Kaydianne McKenzie came in fifth in the triple jump with a top jump of 37-5.25.
 
On the track, Brittney McCants sprinted to a runner-up finish in the 100 meters. She clocked a time of 11.84 in the finals. McCants and teammates McKenzie, Jazmine Vaughan and Torie Cunningham teamed to run a time of 47.25 seconds and earn a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay.
 
The Spartans are back in action this weekend at the Hampton Relays.
