RICHMOND, Va. – VCU won all five contested singles matches in straight sets in a 7-0 defeat of the Norfolk State men's tennis team on Friday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.

NSU's closest matchup came at No. 2 doubles, where sophomores
Antonio Pejic and
Fatehdeep Singh took the Ram duo of Michal Voscek and Catalin Fifea to a tiebreaker. In the end, the VCU tandem won by a 6-5 score, including 7-2 in the tiebreaker.

The Rams also took the first doubles match, 6-2, with Vitor Lima and Daryl Monfils topping NSU freshmen
Benedikt Henning and
Flavian Fernandez. The overall match victory improved VCU's record to 11-3 and kept the Spartans winless at 0-8.

VCU won No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default by virtue of NSU's short-handed lineup.

In singles, Louis Ishizaka got the victory at the No. 5 position, topping Singh by a 6-3, 6-4 score. One spot higher, Pejic suffered a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Arvid Noren.

In the first singles position, Voscek topped Henning, 6-4 and 6-1. Freshman
Dan Dumitrascu fell by a 6-2, 6-1 score against Lima at the second spot in the lineup, while Monfils knocked off Fernandez, 6-2 and 6-2, at the third slot.

The Spartans will head to central Florida for spring break week, where NSU will begin by taking on Creighton on Wednesday in Lake Mary, Fla.
