HAMPTON, Va. – Johnathan Anderson recorded a personal-best outdoor throw in the shot put Saturday, highlight a strong showing for the Spartan men's field athletes at the Hampton Relays.
Anderson's best throw went 46 feet, 7 inches. His only better mark in college came during this past indoor season, when he threw 47-9.25. Anderson took third place in the shot put on Saturday.
In other field events,
David Kibet secured eighth place in the javelin throw with a top effort of 143-9. In the pole vault, the Spartans had three of the top five finishers.
Shaw Barfield was second (12-10.75),
Willard Ward was third (12-4.75) and
Justin Dozier came in fifth (11-11).
NSU's highest finish in the running events came courtesy of the 4x100 meter relay team. The quartet of
Allan Frye,
Jaylen Carr,
Marcus Anderson and
Michael-Thomas Brown placed fifth in 41.56 seconds.
Individually,
Ryan Turner came in seventh place in the 110 meter hurdles (15.23) and
Rasheed Best was seventh in the 400 hurdles (55.72).
The Spartans head out of state this weekend for the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md.
