NORFOLK, Va. – Three Old Dominion pitchers combined to shut out Norfolk State on five hits in the Monarchs' 12-0 win Sunday at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Andy Garriola and Tommy Bell had three RBIs each for the Monarchs (2-0), who outhit the Spartans (0-2) 11-5.
Ryne Moore pitched four scoreless innings with three strikeouts to get the win for ODU. Nick Pantos struck out eight batters over four scoreless innings in relief, and Noah Dean struck out three in a scoreless ninth for ODU.
After NSU freshman right hander
Noah Wiggins kept ODU off the board for the first two frames, the Monarchs scored three times in the third. Ryan Teschko had an RBI single in the third-inning rally, and Bell tacked on a three-run homer in the fourth to give ODU a 6-0 advantage.
Matt Coutney hit a two-run homer in a five-run eighth for the Monarchs.
Five different Spartans accounted for the team's five hits.

Jacob Council and
Dylan Flint all notched hits. Council doubled, while
Ty Hanchey tripled in the losing effort.
Wiggins (0-1) took the loss for NSU. He struck out three over 2.1 innings in his collegiate debut while allowing two hits and three runs.
The teams play their third game of the extended series at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
