Norfolk State took care of business during the indoor season, as the NSU men won the 2023 MEAC Indoor Championships and the women's team finished runner-up. Now, the Norfolk State men have a chance to sweep the indoor and outdoor championships for a second straight year.
Norfolk State boasted the Most Outstanding Runners on both the men's and women's side of the indoor championships.
Regan Kimtai and
Gidion Sigei shared the honor for the men, and
Mercyline Kimaiyo won the award for the women after dominating the long-distance events.
At last year's outdoor championships,
Leslie Young was named Most Outstanding Field Performer in her first-ever appearance at the meet. The freshman won the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, 10 inches, while earning second in the shot put (43-10) and discus (137-4) and fourth in the hammer (154-4).
Norfolk State comes into the conference championship with high expectations.
