Box Score

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. Tony Murphy (Paterson, N.J.), Michael Deloach (Rocky Mount, N.C.) and Corey Lyons (Bronx, N.Y.) combined for 57 points to lead visiting Norfolk State to its 13th straight win over Maryland Eastern Shore, 84-65, on Monday night at the W.P. Hytche Center.

Murphy scored 20 points, all in the first half, Deloach added 19 and Lyons 18 for the Spartans (7-9, 4-1 MEAC), who won for the fifth time in their last six games by shooting a season-high 54.5 percent from the floor. NSU also outrebounded the Hawks (2-14, 0-4) 52-32, the Spartans' biggest differential of the season.

Murphy was 4-of-7 from 3-point range in the first half before sitting out the final 20 minutes. Led by Murphy's charge, the Spartans shot 60 percent in the first half en route to a 44-32 halftime lead.

Ed Tyson, who poured in a game-high 34 points, hit one of his six 3-pointers to bring UMES within seven, 44-37, a minute into the second half. But Lyons scored six points in a 14-0 NSU run over the next five minutes as NSU pushed its lead to 21, 58-37. After a layup by Ishmawiyl McFadden slowed the NSU run, Deloach drained a 3-pointer to give the Spartans their largest lead of the game, 61-39, and NSU cruised from there.

In addition to its accuracy from the floor, NSU also shot 90 percent (17-of-19) from the free throw line.

Defensively, NSU held the Hawks to 27 percent shooting and blocked seven UMES shots. Joseph Dorsett-Jeffreys (Bronx, N.Y.) had a career-high three blocks to go with seven points, one off his career high. Larry Vickers (Virginia Beach, Va.) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Spartans return home for their next four games, beginning with a 6 p.m. contest against South Carolina State on Saturday.
