Xavier Collins picked up where he left off, winning the 200 meters and running a leg on NSU's record-setting 4x200 meter relay team for the Spartans at the Captains Invitational Track Meet over the weekend hosted by Christopher Newport University.
Collins ran a time of 22.30 seconds to win the 200 meters for the second straight meet. Collins then ran anchor as the quartet that also included
Steve Coles,
Michael-Thomas Brown and
Jaylen Carr set a Freeman Center facility record in winning the 4x200 relay (1:28.70).
Collins capped his day by running the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay team, which placed fourth overall and second among collegiate teams in a time of 3:21.70. Other relay members included Coles,
Rashad Ramsey and
Justin Pinder.
In field events, Brown was victorious in the long jump with a best leap of 22 feet, 3 inches. In addition,
Chris Lee was runner-up in the shot put (52-9.5),
Joseph Boyd tied for second in the high jump (6-4) and
Willard Ward placed fifth in the pole vault (13-5.5).
De'Von Booker also earned a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon (3,976 points).
NSU competes in the Penn State National meet next Friday and Saturday.
