RICHMOND, Va. – Allan Frye set a new personal-best and broke the previous meet record time in earning a runner-up finish in the 400 meter hurdles over the weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.
Frye clocked a time of 52.33 seconds, finishing as the fastest collegian and just .12 seconds behind winner Daniel Ross of the track club Quick Stars. Both Ross and Frye broke the previous meet record of 52.66. Frye's previous best time was 52.64 seconds last year at Morgan State.
In the same event, junior
Rashad Ramsey was fourth in 53.59 seconds. Both Ramsey and Frye also ran on the 4x400 meter relay team that placed second in 3 minutes, 15.69 seconds. They were joined on the relay team by
Justin Pinder and
Xavier Collins.
Three other Spartan runners earned top-five finishes at the Fred Hardy Invitational.
Haileyesus Demsie took third in the 5,000 meters in 15:36.99, while fellow distance runners
Joseph Wanene (34:57.36) and
Amon Marindich (35:11.27) placed second and third, respectively, in the 10,000 meters.
In the throwing events, senior
Clifton Thompson finished third in the discus throw with a top effort of 156-4. Da'Trail Hockaday placed eighth in both the discus and hammer.
The Spartans remain in-state for their next competition, the Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary this Friday and Saturday.
