PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --- The Norfolk State Women's cross-country team tallied the top four places to win the UMES Opener Saturday morning.
The Spartans won the event with runners taking 1-2-3-4-6-7-11-12 for a total of 16 points. They were followed by Fairleigh Dickinson (69), Delaware State (74) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (76).
Freshman
Yvone Sandui won the event, posting a time of 11:53.70. Teammate
Mercyline Kimaiyo placed second (12:03.90), while Sophomore
Sonia Koech took third (12:11.30).
Abigael Chebet made her Norfolk State cross country debut by taking fourth (12:30.60) and senior
Jahmei Wyatt placed sixth (7:08.30).
Amira Dailey took seventh in her collegiate debut, clocking in at 7:11.70. Sophomore
Leanna Lewis completed the course in 7:47.60, finishing 11th, while
Emani Thompson took 12th posting a time of 7:47.60.
Norfolk State will hit the ground running again when they travel to the Virginia Invitational on Sep. 14, in Earlysville, Virginia.
