Yvone Sandui Leads Spartans to Third Place Finish

EARLYSVILLE, Va. --- The Spartans earned a third-place finish against quality competition on Saturday morning at the Virginia Invitational.
 
North Carolina took the 5k event with 23 points while Virginia took second with 33. Norfolk State placed third with 96 and Alabama-Huntsville placed fourth with 100 points.
 
Freshman Yvone Sandui placed 22nd, clocking in at 18:18.90 and was quickly followed by Mercyline Kimaiyo who took 23rd (18:29.20).
 
Sonia Koech finished in 26th place (18:58.90). Rounding out the five scorers for the Spartans were Abigael Chebet, placing 32nd (20:06.10) and Jahmei Wyatt in 34th place (20:22.30).
 
Also featured for the Spartans were Leanna Lewis who placed 37th (20:56.70), Amira Dailey who clocked a time of 20:59.40 to place 39th and Emani Thompson, placing 41st (21:48.70).
 
Norfolk State will next compete in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 4th at the ECU Pirate Invitational.
