Day 1 Results (Thursday)LANDOVER, Md. – The Norfolk State men sit in sixth place after the second day of competition at the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
The Spartans have 20 points entering the final day of competition. Bethune-Cookman leads, with 55 points after seven events.
The NSU men got a pair of third-place finishes in Friday's events. Da'Trail Hockaday took third in the weight throw with a best effort of 51 feet, 11.25 inches. Teammate
Clifton Thompson was close behind in fourth (51-4.5).
Capping off the day, the Spartan men's distance medley relay team also brought home a third-place finish. The quartet of
Desmond Fogg,
Rashad Ramsey,
Justin Pinder and
Haileyesus Demsie posted a time of 10 minutes, 23.43 seconds, trailing only UMES and Coppin State in that event.
It was Demsie's second time in two days scoring points for the Spartans. The sophomore placed sixth in the 5,000 meters on Thursday (15:31.23).
In Friday's heats, senior
Steve Coles registered the fastest 400-meter semifinal time, winning his heat in 48.36 seconds. Coles will also run in the 200-meter finals on Saturday.Â
In the 60-meter hurdles, both
Allan Frye (8.16) and
Marcus Anderson (8.25) advanced through the heats and into Saturday's final.
The final day of competition gets underway Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with field events (pole vault, shot put and triple jump). Running events begin at 1 p.m.
