Da'trail Hockaday and
Clifton Thompson finished first and second, respectively, in the men's weight throw on Saturday at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport.
Hockaday posted a season-best throw of 51 feet, 10 inches to edge out his Spartan teammate. Thompson's best effort went 51-8.25. Those throws rank as the third and fifth-best throws, respectively, in the MEAC this indoor season.
Spartan men racked up three wins on the track.
Xavier Collins won the 200-meter dash in 22.31 seconds and
Steve Coles coasted to a victory in the 400 meters (48.90). Coles was followed by teammates
Rashad Ramsey,
Justin Pinder and
Allan Frye, who took third through fifth places. That quartet of 400-meter runners also won the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3 minutes, 20.19 seconds.
Other top field performances were turned in by
Johnathan Anderson, who placed third in the shot put (47-9.25) and
Willard Ward, who was fourth in the pole vault (13-3.5).
The Spartans cap their indoor season this week as they compete at the MEAC Indoor Championship this Thursday through Saturday in Landover, Md.
