NSU Results @ Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Norfolk State senior
Clifton Thompson set a new personal record in the discus throw last week to highlight the performances of the Spartan men's track and field team at the Penn Relays.
Thompson took ninth place in the college section of the men's discus with a top mark of 159 feet, 9 inches. That topped his previous PR of 157-0 from the 2014 outdoor season.
In other throwing events, sophomore
Chris Lee took 18th in the college shot put with a top throw of 50-4.
On the track, the sprint medley relay team of
Xavier Collins,
Rashad Ramsey,
Steve Coles and
Justin Pinder finished 12th in a field of 28 teams on Friday evening. The quartet clocked a time of 3 minutes, 31.07 seconds. Coles, Ramsey, Pinder and
Allan Frye also registered a season-best 4x400 relay time of 3:14.96, good for 21st out of 72 teams in that event.
Frye had the high finish for the Spartan men's individual entrants on the track. Frye was fourth in his heat and 15th overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.87 seconds.
The Spartans will compete this Thursday through Saturday at the 2016 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
