MEAC Outdoor Day 2 Results
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chris Lee's runner-up finish in the shot put and
De'Von Booker's fourth-place effort in the decathlon highlighted day two action for the NSU men's track and field team on Friday at the 2016 MEAC Outdoor Championship at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
The Spartans enter Saturday's final day of competition in fourth place, with 37 points. Bethune-Cookman leads with 65 points, followed by UMES with 60 and North Carolina A&T with 42.
Lee took second place with a best throw of 54 feet, 3.25 inches Friday, adding a silver medal outdoors to his gold medal from the conference indoor championship. The MEAC indoor runner-up, Sulaiman Fared of Hampton, won the event Friday (56-6).
Booker, formerly a hurdles specialist, finished strong in the decathlon to land in fourth place with 5,468 points. Booker won the decathlon's 1,500 meters, which is the final event in the grueling 10-discipline, two-day competition.
Also on Friday,
Clifton Thompson took sixth place in the hammer throw (134 feet, 4 inches) and
Desmond Fogg and
Haileyesus Demsie placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
In Friday's preliminary rounds, both
Allan Frye (14.27) and
Marcus Anderson (14.36) posted qualifying times in the 110 meter hurdles and will run in Saturday's event final.
Steve Coles clocked a time of 47.23 seconds in the 400 meters, also good enough to advance to Saturday's final.
Michael-Thomas Brown ran a collegiate PR of 10.63 seconds in the 100 meter dash, but fell just shy of qualifying for the final in that event.
The competition wraps up Saturday at 9 a.m. with field events including the men's and women's pole vault, javelin, and triple jump. The women's and men's 4x100m relays will begin the running finals at 1 p.m. Rounding out the day's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay races beginning at 4:35 p.m.
